Thoughts in Progress
I don’t want to get ahead of myself with this post, but I do want to get my thoughts down. All three of the books I have read so far have inspired what I am going to say: The Creative Act by Rick Rubin, The House of My Mother by Shari Franke, and The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware. All of these books express the importance of genuine self-expression. This means self-expression that is both authentic and unconstrained.
Create → Express
I also want to reference something that I have said previously. That is, I am creative and yet not spiritually fulfilled. I think I have found the reason for this. It is the latter step. After creativity comes the expression of what we create. This is where my voice gets small. It has become both inauthentic and constrained. It doesn’t make me feel good despite me creating independently.
Shari Franke talks about how her mother, popular Mommy Vlogger Ruby Franke, was the only one in the house allowed to show emotion. And it got me thinking… I have relationships in my own life where only the other person is allowed to express themselves- and they do, often to an extreme extent. I am left with a lot of swallowed words and feelings. Perhaps this blog will help with that. I am still new to finding my voice and what better way to do that than a mostly confidential blog on the internet.
