Welcome to Messy Bun Universe: A Space for Thoughtful Exploration
How it Began:
This blog began as a simple challenge to myself: read 52 books in 2025 and document how my life improves. Although the challenge has successfully come to an end, my intellectual and spiritual journey is still incomplete.
Going forward, this blog will be a record of one woman’s reflections on herself, others, and the world around her, and will cover a wide range of topics from technology, creativity, relationships, and mental health.
It is meant to be a place of connection and mutual acknowledgment of one another in a rapidly changing modern world. And it is my hope that anyone who comes across it is uplifted and inspired by its contents.
Where the name “Messy Bun Universe” came from:
I originally started this blog writing under the name “Messy Bun Book Lover”, but as I grew, the content expanded beyond just my love of books.
The description of a “Messy Bun” is meant to convey a woman throwing her hair into a messy bun as she starts to focus, write, think, or do whatever she needs to do- sort of a Rosie the Riveter “get it done!” type of energy. Especially because it represents a collective, not necessarily a single woman.
I also liked the visual for its feminine irony. Women’s hair is often emphasized as a symbol of their beauty, yet how often is it haphazardly pulled back out of the way so that they can get work done?
So there I was; writing alone in my room- in my own universe- with just my thoughts and my hair thrown into a messy tangle that no one will see. The name just felt right.
This blog is not just for women though, that is just the way by which it was created. It is for anyone who finds value in it. All are welcomed and celebrated here.
